Ingredients
- 1 lb. ground beef I like to use 85/15 or 90/10
- 3 Tbsp Sweet chili sauce
- 2 Tbsp reduced sodium soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp ketchup
- 1 Tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 Tbsp packed light brown sugar
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 1 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp minced dried onion
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp sesame seeds for garnish
- hamburger buns for serving
Instructions
Toast buns (optional but recommended)
- Heat a large skillet over MED HIGH/HIGH heat. Add a drizzle of vegetable oil, and once hot, add buns, cut side down. Cook for 30 seconds to a minute (this time will vary), or until golden brown on the bottoms.
- Remove to a wire cooling rack, cut sides up.
Cook meat
- Heat a small drizzle of oil in large skillet over MED-HIGH heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking apart into crumbles as it cooks, about 5 minutes, or until cooked through. Transfer to colander to drain if necessary (depending on the leanness of your ground beef this may not be needed).
- Return beef to the same skillet.
Add sauce
- To the skillet, add sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, ketchup, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, dried onion, garlic powder, ground ginger, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes on MED heat, until sauce has thickened a bit, to your desired consistency.
Garnish and serve
- Remove skillet from the heat, and sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
- Serve over the toasted buns as a sandwich, or however you'd like.
Notes
- I've estimated this recipe serves 6 (just 1/6th of the skillet - not an exact measurement), but you're free to divide it up into as many servings as you'd like.
- Calorie count provided (as a courtesy and is an estimate) does not include the buns, as this will vary from person to person (depending on the types of buns used, etc).
