Baked Italian Sausage Rotini

Baked Italian Sausage Rotini is a savory, cheesy, and a little spicy. It is an easy dinner and can be frozen and reheated later.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic 
  • 1 pound ground Italian sausage
  • 16 ounces rotini pasta
  • 36 ounces pasta sauce of choice
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese divided

Instructions

  1. Cook pasta according to package directions.
  2. Roll the ground Italian sausage into small balls.
  3. In a large fry pan, brown the garlic in olive oil. Then add sausage balls and cook until browned.
  4. In a large bowl toss together the sausage with all the other ingredients reserving 1 cup of cheese.
  5. Pour pasta mixture into a 9x13 inch pan lined with cooking spray.
  6. Bake at 375 for 25 min. Top with remaining cheese and bake 5 more minutes.

  • To garnish, sprinkle with fresh parsley and basil and a generous handful of parmesan cheese. 
  • Turn this into a baked rigatoni recipe or baked ziti, any baked pasta you like!
  • Toss in a handful or so of fresh spinach.
  • Chop and add other fresh vegetables like zucchini, broccoli, diced red or green peppers, any veggies you want.
  • No sausage? No problem! You can use ground beef, ground turkey or chicken, turkey sausage, any kind of ground meat works for this recipe.
