Banana Donuts

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup agave nectar or honey
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons milk (2% or whole)
  • 1 ½ tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups mashed banana (measured after mashing, about 3-4 bananas)

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 4 ounces cream cheese softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • Sprinkles for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Banana Donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, stir together the agave nectar, vegetable oil, milk, lemon juice, and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix together with a rubber spatula until just combined. (Do not over mix.)
  4. Grease a donut pan. Pour the batter into each mold until they're filled.
  5. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Remove from the oven and let the donuts rest in the pan for 5 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Cream Cheese Frosting

  1. Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla together in a medium mixing bowl with a hand mixer until light and fluffy, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the powdered sugar 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition until the frosting is smooth and creamy.
  3. Frost each donut and top with sprinkles if desired. Serve immediately.
