Bang Bang Salmon

Bang Bang Salmon features salmon filets coated in a flavorful blend of paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper, then brushed with a creamy, sweet-spicy sauce made of mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and honey. Baking at high heat cooks the salmon to tender, flaky perfection while the sauce adds a balance of heat, sweetness, and richness.

Description

This Bang Bang Salmon recipe starts by seasoning salmon filets with olive oil and a dry rub of paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. The signature sauce combines mayonnaise for creaminess, balanced with Thai sweet chili sauce for sweetness, sriracha for heat, and honey for extra sweetness.

The salmon is brushed with half the sauce before baking at 400°F, ensuring the fish cooks through in 8 to 10 minutes while developing a slightly caramelized exterior. A brief broil can crisp edges further. After baking, the reserved sauce is drizzled on top for extra flavor. Chopped chives finish the dish with fresh color and mild onion notes.

Bang Bang Salmon makes a flavorful main course suitable for a quick dinner. It pairs well with simple sides like rice or steamed vegetables, letting the sauce’s layered flavors shine.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 4 almon filets, about 1½ pounds, skins on
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup Thai sweet chili sauce 66 g
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha or more to taste
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • Chives, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Drizzle the olive oil over salmon on all sides and gently rub it in. In a small bowl, combine paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Sprinkle seasoning mixture over the salmon filets.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili sauce, Sriracha, and honey. Mix well and divide the sauce in half. (It makes one cup of sauce, so use ½ cup for brushing it on the salmon before baking, reserving the other ½ cup for drizzling after baking.)
  5. Using ½ cup of sauce, evenly brush it over the salmon filets.
  6. Place the salmon onto the lined baking sheet, skin-side down, leaving space between each filet.
  7. Bake the salmon for 8-10 minutes, or until cooked through. (Start checking the salmon after 6 minutes.) The internal temperature of fully cooked salmon is 145°F. For a crispier filet, broil for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Transfer the salmon to a plate and drizzle with the remaining sauce. Garnish with chives.
  9. Serve warm with rice.
