Brazilian Hot Chocolate
Description
This Brazilian Hot Chocolate recipe combines high-quality bittersweet chocolate with milk, heavy cream, and cinnamon sticks heated to a gentle simmer, allowing the spices to infuse the liquid. Chopped chocolate is added and whisked until fully melted, creating a dense and smooth chocolate base. Sweetened condensed milk is incorporated gradually to reach the desired sweetness. The drink’s texture is thick and velvety, owing to the cream and melted chocolate, with cinnamon adding a warm aromatic undertone.
After preparation, the cinnamon sticks are removed and the hot chocolate is poured into cups. Optional liquor can be added for an adult version. The drink is finished with a dollop of softly whipped cream, shaved chocolate, and a light dusting of ground cinnamon, enhancing both flavor and presentation.
Whipping cream to soft peaks before adding some to the hot chocolate and reserving some for garnish improves richness and texture. Gradual addition of condensed milk allows tuning sweetness. Using 60-70% chocolate bars gives balanced bitterness that complements the sweet, creamy liquid. The drink pairs well with desserts or can be enjoyed alone as a warming treat.
