Brownie Trifle
Description
Brownie Trifle begins with baked Ghirardelli brownies cut into cubes as a dense, chocolate base. A pudding mixture is made from instant chocolate pudding, whole milk, and sweetened condensed milk, folded with whipped topping to create a light yet indulgent mousse. Layers alternate between brownies, pudding, toffee bits, and more whipped topping, building a multi-textured treat.
After assembling in a trifle or glass bowl, chilling for several hours allows the layers to meld and the pudding to set slightly. The toffee bits add a crunchy, buttery contrast to the soft brownie and creamy pudding. This chilled dessert suits celebrations or gatherings where a make-ahead, shareable sweet is desired.
Extra brownie pieces can be reserved for snacking outside of the dessert, avoiding waste and making the most of the batch prepared. Layering provides visual appeal when served.
Ingredients
- 2 Ghirardelli Brownie Mix 18-ounce; plus ingredients to make brownies
- 2 egg
- 2 water
- 2 vegetable oil
- 1 instant chocolate pudding mix 3.9-ounce box
- ⅔ cups milk whole
- 1 sweetened condensed milk 14-ounce can
- 2 frozen whipped topping 8-ounce containers; Cool Whip brand; thawed
- 1 milk chocolate English toffee bits Heath brand; 8-ounce bag
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a 9 x 13-inch baking pan with foil, leaving an inch or two of overhang on the short sides of the pan to use as "handles" to lift the brownies out of the pan once cooled. Spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray.
- Prepare brownie mixes according to package directions and pour batter into the prepared pan. Bake the brownies for 45 minutes and cool completely. Once the brownies are cool, cut into 1-inch squares.
- In a large bowl, combine pudding mix, whole milk and sweetened condensed milk. Mix until smooth, then fold in 8 ounces whipped topping until no streaks remain.
- In a trifle bowl or large glass bowl, place half of the brownies into the bottom of the serving dish. Layer half of the pudding mixture directly onto the brownies and follow with ⅓ of the bag of toffee bits. Next, add half of the remaining container of whipped topping. Repeat layers. Top with remaining ⅓ of toffee bits. Cover and refrigerate 3-4 hours before serving.
Notes
- Extra brownie squares leftover from assembly make excellent snacks.
- Chilling the trifle for at least 3 hours enhances flavor melding and texture.
- Use a clear dish to showcase the layered presentation.
