Ingredients
- 1 box brownie mix 18 ounces
- 1 container chocolate frosting 16 ounces
- 2 cups chocolate chips melted
- Sprinkles
Ingredients called for by the brownie mix which are usually
- eggs
- oil
- water
Instructions
- Bake the brownies according to the package instructions and allow them to cool completely.
- Scoop the cooked brownies into a bowl and add the chocolate frosting. Stir to mix. *see notes
- Place the bowl in the refrigerator to chill for at least one hour.
- When the mixture has hardened slightly, use a small cookie scoop to roll the mixture into balls. Place the balls on a baking sheet or tray lined with parchment paper.
- After all the balls have been rolled, place the tray in the freezer for 20 to 30 minutes until hardened.
- When ready to decorate, melt the chocolate chips. Melt the chocolate slowly to avoid burning. Use a microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, or a double boiler. If the chocolate is too thick, add a teaspoon of coconut oil or vegetable shortening to thin it out.
- Dip each brownie ball in the melted chocolate until fully coated. Remove the ball from the chocolate with a fork and lightly tap the fork on the edge of the bowl to remove excess chocolate.
- Transfer the coated ball to a piece of parchment paper and immediately top with sprinkles.
- Chill the decorated brownie balls in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before serving to allow the chocolate to set.
Notes
- Let the brownies cool completely. If they're even slightly warm, they'll melt the frosting and turn into a sticky mess.
- Depending on the brownie mix and frosting brand, you might need to adjust the amount of frosting. Start with about three-quarters of the container and add more if needed. The mixture should be moist but not too sticky.
- There are a couple of different chilling steps; don't skip them. They are all necessary.
- Rolling truffles can get messy. Keep a damp cloth nearby to wipe your hands, or lightly coat your hands with a bit of cooking spray to prevent the mixture from sticking.
