Caipirinha Cocktail
Description
The Caipirinha Cocktail features fresh lime cut into eighths and muddled vigorously with sugar until the granules begin to dissolve. This extraction of oils and juice combines citrus tartness with sugar sweetness to complement cachaça's grassy, slightly sweet character. Adding ice chills the drink, while stirring integrates all components evenly. The preparation uses old fashioned glasses, enhancing the traditional presentation.
Offering a strong alcohol profile, this cocktail is best sipped slowly. It pairs well with casual social gatherings or as an opener for a meal. Adjusting sweetness or diluting with juices or limeade can soften the punch for individual preferences.
This recipe’s simple method lets the fresh lime and cachaça shine with minimal distractions. Stir immediately before serving to preserve chill and balance.
Ingredients
- 2 lime cut into eighths, washed
- 4 tbsp sugar
- 6 oz cachaça
- ice cubes or crushed ice
Instructions
- In two old fashioned glasses, muddle one chopped up lime with two tablespoons of sugar in each. Muddle them well until the sugar is almost completely dissolved.
- Add 3 ounces of the cachaca to each glass, add ice, and stir with a spoon or straw.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- This cocktail is potent; diluting with limeade or other juices can moderate the alcohol strength if desired.
