Easy Blueberry Limeade

Using a homemade blueberry syrup, make this easy, refreshing Blueberry Limeade drink, or use lemonade for a blueberry lemonade either way, this is a sweet and easy, non-alcoholic summer drink recipe!

Blueberry Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup cane sugar all natural. I use organic cane sugar
  • 1 cup filtered water
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries washed (or frozen)
  • small handful of fresh mint optional

Blueberry Limeade (or lemonade)

  • 2 oz blueberry simple syrup
  • 6-8 oz limeade I use Simply Limeade, try Simply Light Lemonade or regular lemonade
  • ice
  • blueberries Mint and Lime for garnish

Lime Sugar Rim (Optional)

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Zest from 1 lime

Instructions

  1. Blueberry Simple Syrup
  2. Pour water and sugar into small heavy saucepan, add washed blueberries and fresh mint if desired.
  3. Over medium heat stir until sugar dissolves, bring mixture to simmer, without stirring for about 3 minutes. BUT DO NOT BOIL.
  4. Cool completely, in pan, then pour cooled syrup through strainer into a bowl, if desired smash blueberries with back of spoon for a slightly thicker syrup. Pour into clean 16 oz mason jar, storing in fridge. Lasts about 1 month in fridge.
  5. BLUEBERRY LIMEADE (or Lemonade)
  6. This step is optional, but adds a lovely sweet-tart surprise and makes the blueberry lemonade or limeade a bit fancier.
  7. Place the sugar on a medium sized plate, using your fingers, rub the lime zest into the sugar, flavoring the sugar.Rub a wedge of lime (or lemon) around the edge of the glass, then turn the glass upside down and rotate to coat the rim of the glass in the lime sugar.Measure (or eyeball) the blueberry simply syrup and pour over ice in glass.
  8. Add desired amount of lemonade or limeade for your blueberry drink! Stir to combine.
  9. By the Pitcher
  10. You can easily make this delicious, bright and refreshing blueberry drink by the pitcher, in a punch bowl or beverage server.
  11. Be sure to add plenty of ice, then add 1/2 - 1 cup blueberry simple syrup and stir in 52-64 oz of your favorite lemonade or limeade.
  12. Tuck plenty of fresh mint, slices of lemon or lime and a few fresh or frozen blueberries for a gorgeous summer beverage.

Notes

  • This blueberry drink would be delicious made with vodka and lemonadeor limeade, it would also be delicious with tequila, crushed ice and whirring it in the blender for a smooth, blueberry margarita! Add between 1 - 2 oz of your favorite spirit.
  • Don't like limeade? Swap with your favorite lemonade and make a delicious Blueberry Lemonade.
  • Make a Fizzy Refresher | Using a light and refreshing mixers, here are some suggestions; Limonata San Pellagrino, Sparkling Lemonade or Limeade, or even Pink Lemonade, Italian Lemon Soda.
  • Lighter Blueberry Drink | For a lighter drink you might like Limon Cello La Croix or the Key Lime La Croix.
  • Minty? | Muddle a few mint leaves in the bottom of the glass before pouring the blueberry simple syrup.
  • Garnish | for the look in the pictures, I placed fresh blueberries on a pretty skewer and froze them, use to stir the blueberry limeade and they will soften, but also get slightly slushy! YUM!
  • Blueberry Basil Lemonade | In the bottom of the glass before pouring in the syrup, muddle 1-2 basil leaves, then proceed as directed for a sumptuous and fragrant summer drink recipe.
