Espresso Martini
Description
The Espresso Martini combines 2 ounces of vodka with 1 ounce each of freshly brewed espresso and heavy cream, complemented by ½ ounce of Kahlúa coffee liqueur and simple syrup to balance bitterness and add sweetness. Shaking the ingredients over ice chills and blends the flavors while creating a smooth, slightly frothy texture. Straining the cocktail into a chilled martini glass keeps it crisp and visually appealing.
This cocktail has a rich and creamy mouthfeel from the heavy cream, contrasted by the bright robust notes of espresso and subtle coffee liqueur warmth. The simple syrup softens the sharpness and smooths the balance of alcohol and coffee intensity. Garnishing with three coffee beans adds a symbolic and aromatic touch.
Its proportions produce a single 4-ounce serving, making it a focused and measured cocktail option. Variations in cream types or coffee liqueurs are included in the notes, allowing tailoring of texture and flavor intensity.
Homemade simple syrup can be made by dissolving equal parts sugar and water without boiling, or purchased pre-made for convenience.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces vodka (4 tablespoons)
- 1 ounce espresso 2 tablespoons, see note 1, freshly brewed
- 1 ounce heavy cream (see note 2)
- 1/2 ounce Kahlúa (2 tablespoons, see note 3)
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup (see note 4)
- 3 coffee beans for garnish
Instructions
- In a mixing glass filled with ice, add vodka, espresso, heavy cream, Kahlúa, and syrup. Cover and shake until well combined and chilled.
- Strain martini mixture into a well-chilled martini glass. Garnish with coffee beans.
Notes
- Cold brew concentrate can substitute espresso if an espresso machine is unavailable.
- Heavy cream provides a rich texture; lighter creams yield a less decadent cocktail.
- Other coffee-flavored liqueurs like Tia Maria or Bailey’s espresso may be used instead of Kahlúa.
- Homemade simple syrup is made by dissolving equal parts sugar and water without boiling and cooling before use.
- Each recipe batch yields one 4-ounce cocktail.
