Grandma's Homemade Chili
Description
This recipe starts by browning ground beef in a pot, breaking it up for even cooking and draining excess grease for a leaner chili. Onions are then softened until translucent and garlic added briefly to build aromatic layers.
Next, kidney beans and stewed tomatoes are combined with chili seasoning for classic chili flavor. The mixture is brought to a boil, then simmered gently to meld ingredients and thicken the sauce, producing a chunky, hearty stew with tender vegetables and seasoned meat.
The chili is finished by seasoning with salt and black pepper to taste, allowing flexibility to adjust the heat and savoriness. It pairs well with toppings like cheese or sour cream and sides like cornbread or tortilla chips.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 yellow onion diced
- 2 teaspoons garlic minced
- 2 cans Kidney Beans drained, 15 ounces each
- 2 cans stewed tomatoes 14.5 ounces each
- 3 tablespoons chili seasoning
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat a large pot or Dutch Oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes, breaking up the meat as you go. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
- Add onion and cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until translucent. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
- Add kidney beans, tomatoes, and chili seasoning. Stir to combine.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce heat to low. Allow to simmer, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are slightly tender and chili is heated through, about 15-20 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
