Halloween Black Sesame Porridge Breakfast

Surprise your loved ones with Halloween black sesame rice porridge breakfast in the morning. It is not only easy and delicious but also very filling as well. A great way to start Halloween day!

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup white short grain rice
  • 5 cups water divided
  • 1/3 cup black sesame seeds toasted
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon honey optional

Instructions

  1. Rinse rice several times until you get clear water. Soak the rice in the water for at least 1 hour. Overnight is preferable. Drain the water off. Set aside.
  2. In a spice or coffee grinder, grind the black sesame finely; set aside.
  3. Put the soaked rice in a blender and add 2 cups of water. Pulse until rice gets coarsely granulated but not pureed.
  4. Pour the blended rice in a pot and add the rest of water (3 cup). Bring it to gentle boil over med-high heat stirring often. Reduce the heat to low and keep stirring for another 10 minutes or until the rice granule is tender to the bite.
  5. Add the sesame crumbs to the rice and mix well. Heat through and season with salt. If desired, add a little amount of honey to taste. Serve hot.
  6. The porridge can be made ahead and reheat in a microwave.
