Homemade Baileys Irish Cream
Description
Homemade Baileys Irish Cream uses Irish whiskey as the alcoholic base combined with sweetened condensed milk and half-and-half to create a creamy texture. Flavorings include chocolate syrup and vanilla extract to enrich the taste, balanced by a hint of instant coffee granules for subtle bitterness and depth.
All components are blended until smooth, producing a thick, sweet, and creamy liqueur similar to the commercial version. The mixture is stored in a sealed container in the refrigerator, where the alcohol content helps preserve it for up to two months. This allows convenient serving throughout the warmer months or for special cocktails.
Shake the bottle before serving to remix the ingredients. Use it on its own over ice, mixed into coffee, or as a component in dessert recipes that call for Baileys. The recipe yields approximately 4 cups total, with a suggested serving size around 1 ounce.
This recipe is intended for those of legal drinking age and should be consumed responsibly.
Ingredients
- 1 ⅔ cups Irish whiskey I used Jameson
- sweetened condensed milk one 14-ounce can
- 1 cup half-and-half I used half-and-half, or heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup I used Hershey’s
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon instant coffee granules make sure it’s instant so it dissolves, or instant espresso
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in the canister of a blender and blend on high speed until smooth, 30 to 60 seconds.
- Transfer mixture to a glass bottle or airtight container with a tight-fitting lid and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 months (I have read anywhere between 1 to 2 months; the alcohol helps preserve it, but always use the sniff test and common sense).
- Shake well before using.
Notes
- The recipe makes about 4 cups of Baileys Irish Cream, with a typical serving size of 1 ounce.
- Store the liqueur in the refrigerator for up to 2 months; use sensory checks to ensure freshness.
- Shake well before each use to mix ingredients that may separate.
- This homemade liqueur is for adults of legal drinking age; consume responsibly.
