Homemade Orange Chicken Sauce

Ingredients
- ¾ cup orange juice freshly squeezed
- ¼ cup tamari or soy sauce
- 3 Tbsp brown sugar or honey
- 2 Tbsp. cornstarch or tapioca starch
- 2 cloves garlic finely minced
- ½ tsp. ginger paste or finely minced fresh ginger
- 2 tsp. rice vinegar
- 1 tsp. orange zest
- 1 tsp. toasted sesame oil
- ½ tsp. salt to taste
- 1 tsp. chili sauce or Sriracha
- green onions thinly sliced, optional
- toasted sesame seeds optional
Instructions
- Whisk together the sauce ingredients in a medium-sized bowl.
- Pour the sauce into a medium-sized saucepan over high heat and bring it to a boil.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and cook for 1-2 minutes, whisking constantly. The sauce should reduce by almost half during this time.
- Serve the orange sauce immediately with crispy fried chicken, or allow it to come to room temperature and store it in an airtight container for up to a week in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Prep-Ahead Instructions:
- This orange sauce can be made a day or two early.
- Storage Directions:
- Keep leftover sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. You can freeze the sauce for up to 3 months. For the best results, thaw the sauce in the fridge, then warm it back up in a skillet.
