Homemade Pizza Crust

This Homemade Pizza Crust recipe combines warm water, sugar, salt, flour, and active dry yeast to create a basic dough suitable for baking or grilling pizza. It can be made either using a bread machine for convenience or prepared manually via mixing and kneading. The crust is rolled out to cover the pan and baked at 400°F or grilled at 500°F for a crisp finish.

Description

The Homemade Pizza Crust recipe starts by dissolving sugar and salt in warm water before combining with flour and yeast. When using a bread machine, ingredients are layered and set to dough cycle, producing a smooth dough ready to be rolled out. For those without a bread machine, yeast is proofed separately then mixed with flour and salt to create the dough, which is kneaded until smooth.

The dough is shaped into a 12-inch circle or spread to fill a pizza pan, prepared for toppings. Baking at 400°F for about 20 minutes or grilling at 500°F for 10-15 minutes yields a crust with balanced firmness and slight crispness. This versatility in cooking methods allows adapting to available equipment and desired crust texture.

Versatile in use, the crust can be topped with preferred sauces and toppings to suit individual tastes. Whether baked traditionally or grilled outdoors, it forms a base suitable for various pizza creations. The recipe also provides flexibility for those wanting manual preparation or appliance-assisted dough making.

Notes include an alternative manual method detailing proofing yeast in hot water, mixing with flour and salt, kneading, and rolling out dough. This method ensures that cooks without bread machines can still successfully create pizza crust dough at home.
