Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs

Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs feature boneless, skinless thighs seasoned with a blend of garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper, dredged in a spiced flour before searing. They are then baked and glazed in a honey-soy sauce mixture with minced garlic, onion, white wine vinegar, and red pepper flakes. The combination produces a richly flavored, tender chicken with a sticky, sweet and savory garlic glaze.

Description

This recipe begins by seasoning chicken thighs with a garlic and spice blend, then coating them in a flour mixture to promote a light crust when seared in olive oil. After browning on both sides for color and texture, the chicken finishes baking in the oven until heated through. Meanwhile, the glaze is prepared in the same skillet combining honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, finely diced onions, white wine vinegar, and red pepper flakes, which infuse the sauce with savory, sweet, and mildly spicy notes.

The result is chicken thighs with a caramelized exterior and juicy interior, glazed in a sticky sauce that clings well and carries layers of flavor from the garlic and spices. The baking step ensures even cooking and an ideal texture.

This dish can be served on its own, with rice or vegetables to balance the sweet sauce. The glaze also works well as a dipping sauce or to drizzle over side dishes. The thorough seasoning and sauce elevate simple chicken thighs into a well-rounded meal.

Ingredients

Servings

Chicken

  • 6 boneless chicken thighs skinless
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce

  • ½ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 tablespoons garlic minced
  • ½ cup yellow onion finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes

Instructions

Chicken

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Divide this seasoning mixture in half.
  3. Using one half of the seasoning mixture, evenly coat all sides of the chicken thighs.
  4. To the remaining half of the seasoning mixture, add the flour and whisk together.
  5. Dredge each chicken thigh in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess flour, and set aside.
  6. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken for about 4-6 minutes per side. (The chicken will not be fully cooked at this point.)
  7. Transfer chicken to the prepared baking sheet. (You will use the skillet to make the glaze.) Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  8. While the chicken is baking, prepare the glaze.

Sauce

  1. To the same skillet over medium-high heat, add honey, soy sauce, garlic, onion, vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir to combine.
  2. Bring mixture to a boil, and then reduce temperature to medium heat. Simmer for about 10-15 minutes, or until thickened.
  3. Add cooked chicken back into the skillet and toss to coat.
  4. Serve hot with rice, pasta, or vegetables.
