How to Boil Peanuts in Instant Pot (+ 2 Serving Ideas)
Description
The method begins by thoroughly washing raw green peanuts and draining them, then placing them in the Instant Pot with rock salt and red pepper flakes for added heat and flavor. Mixing the seasonings with water ensures even distribution. The Instant Pot is set to pressure cook mode at 25 minutes, based on using freshly pulled green peanuts, which cook faster. The recipe notes that cooking times vary with peanut maturity and variety; in some regions, cooking may require up to 75 minutes and a quick pressure release.
The boiled peanuts emerge with a softened texture, ideal for eating as a snack with their salty, slightly spicy flavor. This preparation is typical in some cuisines and offers a different way to enjoy peanuts than roasting.
Adjusting cooking time based on peanut type and taste preferences is recommended. Nutritional variations should be considered based on ingredient amounts and seasoning.

The variety of peanuts we get in India cooks fast comparatively. Cooking time for peanuts vary widely on the maturity of the peanut an it's variety. Freshly pulled peanuts cooks faster. I have tested over years and noticed it always cooks in 20-25 minutes. I know some will be surprised to hear I can cook peanuts in 25 minutes, but I believe the variety of peanuts vary from country to country. Green peanuts is the US and other countries usually needs more time to cook. If you are in The US, Canada or other countries, Please adjust your cooking time to 75 minutes and do quick pressure release.
- Once cooking time is done, allow it for 5 minutes NATURAL PRESSURE RELEASE.
- Carefully turn pressure valve to VENTING positing for manual release of pressure.
- Open lid.
- Do taste test to check for salt and seasoning, adjust to suit your taste buds.
- Drain peanuts from water.
- To eat peanuts – Pick a peanut and gently squeeze the shell until it pops open. Let the juices run down – beware of messy, dripping fingers and elbows. Pull apart the shell into two, pick the legume and eat it, discard shell.
- Serve immediately, while still warm, the BEST WAY TO SERVE.
Notes
