Limonada, lemonade or limeade
Description
This limonada recipe blends quartered limes or lemons—seeds removed—with cold water and sugar until the fruit is pulverized and a light foam forms. The mixture is then strained to remove solids and mixed with additional water to achieve the desired intensity and balance of tartness and sweetness. The presence of citrus peel differentiates this drink by introducing gentle bitterness and aromatic oils that intensify the lemon or lime character.
The final beverage is bright and refreshing, with acidity balanced by sweetness. Serving with ice cubes and garnishes of lemon or lime slices can cool the drink and enhance presentation. It's ideal for warm days or whenever a revitalizing citrus beverage is desired.
Because the blended peel can quickly cause bitterness if the drink sits, it is best consumed on the day it is made. This ensures the flavor is fresh and not overly astringent.
Ingredients
- 2 lime quartered and any seeds removed, or lemons
- 8 cups water cold
- sugar more or less based on your preference, approximately ½ cup
- ice cubes as desired; slices to garnish
- lemon
- lime
Instructions
- Place the quartered limes or lemons in the blender with 4 cups of water and sugar.
- Blend until the limes or lemon is completely pulverized, the mixture should be slightly foamy with a whitish color.
- Strain the lemonade and add the remaining 4 cups of water.
- Serve with or without ice based on individual preference.
Notes
- Blend the whole limes or lemons with peel for fuller flavor, but consume the limonada the same day to avoid bitterness developing.
