Loaded Tuna Sandwich
Description
The Loaded Tuna Sandwich brings together drained canned tuna mixed with diced celery, cucumber, chopped gherkins, sliced spring onions, and sweetcorn. Light mayonnaise and lemon juice bind the mixture, with salt and pepper seasoning for balance. The sandwich is built on two slices of sourdough bread layered with the tuna mixture, topped with fresh slices of beef tomato and a generous handful of arugula (rocket), then closed with the remaining bread slices. The medley of crunchy vegetables contrasts the creamy tuna, while the lemon juice adds brightness.
The texture is varied, combining creamy tuna mayo with crisp vegetables and the chewy, slightly sour sourdough bread. This sandwich can serve well as a quick meal or a packed lunch option. The inclusion of arugula contributes peppery notes, enhancing flavor complexity without overpowering the delicate tuna.
For a richer profile, ingredients like avocado or spicy jalapenos can be added, while substitutions such as Greek yogurt for mayonnaise or alternate bread types provide flexibility. Leftover filling can be stored in the refrigerator up to two days, helping with meal prep or snacking needs.
