Magic Turmeric Tea Recipe
Description
Magic Turmeric Tea Recipe brings together grated fresh ginger and turmeric, black pepper, minced garlic, lemon juice and slices, and a bag of green tea. The infusion highlights turmeric's distinctive earthiness and ginger's warmth, balanced with the citrus brightness of lemon. Steeping in hot water releases the flavors and beneficial compounds, while black pepper aids in boosting turmeric's effects. An option to blend the steeped tea creates a frothy consistency that blends the textures evenly.
The tea offers a gentle spice with a refreshing citrus finish, making it suitable as a warming drink during cooler times. Its mildly pungent notes come from the garlic and peppers, which balance the tea's smooth base. Using fresh ingredients contributes to the vibrant character of the drink.
For those avoiding caffeine, substituting decaffeinated green tea or omitting it altogether is advised. Storing fresh turmeric in the freezer eases the grating process due to its stickiness. When blending, turmeric may stain kitchen equipment, but stains typically fade over time or respond to cleaning with hot water and mild bleach.
Preparing in batches is possible by adjusting tea bags per volume. Stir the tea before each sip to redistribute spices. Overall, this recipe offers a customized approach to a flavorful and aromatic turmeric-based tea.
Ingredients
- lemon juice juice from 1 lemon
- 1 ½ teaspoons ginger grated fresh
- 1 teaspoon Turmeric or sub powdered, grated, fresh
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 small garlic grated with a Microplane, clove
- 1 green tea bag
- honey we often use Royal Jelly, optional, 1 teaspoon
Instructions
Option #1: Mug
- Place all the ingredients into a mug and fill with nearly boiling water. Let the tea steep for 2-3 minutes then remove the bag and sip away. Tip: leave a spoon in the mug and give it a stir before each sip to mix up the spices.
Option #2: Blender
- Place a mug of water into a small pot, add all the ingredients and bring almost to a boil. Remove from the heat and let it sit for 2-3 minutes. Remove the tea bag then pour the tea into your high-powered blender. Blend on high until frothy and smooth. (See notes.)
Notes
- Use decaffeinated green tea or omit it if avoiding caffeine, especially in the evening.
- Store turmeric root in the freezer to make grating easier and less sticky.
- If blending, turmeric may stain the blender; clean promptly with hot water and mild bleach to reduce staining.
- When making a larger batch, use one green tea bag per two cups of hot water for balanced strength.
- Stir the tea before each sip to mix spices that settle during drinking.
