Make Ahead Smoothies
Description
This smoothie recipe mixes a base of milk with frozen berries, banana, spinach, and optional protein powder to create a balanced, nutrient-rich beverage. The ingredients blend smoothly to incorporate the fruit and greens evenly without chunks.
Portioning the smoothies into mason jars with space left at the top allows them to expand when frozen. Sealed, these jars can be stored in the freezer for up to three months, preserving flavor and nutrition.
When ready to consume, letting the smoothie thaw at room temperature for about an hour or microwaving until no longer solid provides a smooth texture similar to freshly blended smoothies. Shaking the jar before drinking helps re-mix any separation that occurs during freezing and thawing.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups milk see notes, of choice
- 1 ½ cups berries frozen
- 2 coops protein powder optional
- 1 medium banana
- ½ cup spinach
Instructions
- Add the milk, berries, protein powder if using, banana, and spinach to your blender. Blend on high speed until smooth.
- Pour the smoothie into two 2-cup mason jars, making sure there is at least 1 inch of space at the top. Seal the lids and then place them into your freezer for up to 3 months.
- To serve them, remove them from the freezer and let them thaw on the counter for 1 hour. OR remove the lid and microwave until it's no longer solid. Give the smoothie a good shake in the jar and then enjoy it right away.
