No longer just for cold-weather sipping, bourbon gets a refreshing, summery makeover in this Classic Mint Julep Recipe. Made with just four ingredients in all of five minutes, this minty cocktail wins the Triple Crown for bubbly effervescence, rich flavor, and timeless elegance.

Ingredients

  • 10 mint leaves plus a sprig for garnish
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons superfine sugar
  • mineral water
  • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon see notes

Instructions

  1. Place the mint leaves in the bottom of a glass and top with the sugar. Muddle together until the leaves begin to break down.
  2. Add a splash of mineral water, fill the glass 3/4 full with crushed ice, and add the bourbon.
  3. Top with another splash of seltzer, stir, and garnish with a sprig of mint.
  4. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Either bourbon or rye makes for a fantastic julep, so choose according to your preferences. I suggest reaching for the best one in your price range, especially since this is such a simple cocktail recipe.
  • Make it a mocktail by replacing the bourbon in this mint julep recipe with either lemonade or more sparkling mineral water.
