Mojito Recipe

This Mojito recipe balances fresh mint leaves, lime juice, and honey muddled together, then combines stirred white rum, ice, and club soda for a refreshing, slightly sweet cocktail. The gentle muddling preserves mint color and flavor without over-bruising. Honey is used in place of sugar to moderate sweetness according to taste.

Description

The Mojito starts with fresh mint leaves, honey, and freshly squeezed lime juice gently muddled in a glass to release aromatic flavors without shredding the mint. White rum is added along with ice to chill the drink, followed by club soda which adds effervescence and dilutes the strength.

The resulting beverage is lightly sweetened by honey, brightened by lime, and herbaceous from the mint. The texture is sparkling and refreshing, suitable as a casual cocktail or a warm weather cooler.

The recipe notes mention flexibility in honey amount to adjust sweetness, recommend a standard two-ounce pour for the rum, and suggest tools like a combined muddler and cocktail spoon for efficiency. Stainless steel or glass straws are recommended for serving.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 10 mint leaf fresh
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 lime juiced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • club soda

Instructions

  1. Muddle together. Add the mint leaves, honey and lime juice to a highball or collins glass. Use a muddler to gently muddle the mint leaves, but don't muddle too much as you don't want to break the leaves up.
  2. Add the rum and ice. Pour in the rum, then fill the glass ⅔ of the way full with ice.
  3. Finish it off. Top it off with club soda, add a sprig of fresh mint, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Adjust the honey amount to suit your sweetness preference; this recipe uses one teaspoon instead of the traditional two teaspoons of sugar.
  • A standard cocktail jigger's larger side usually holds between 1.5 and 2 ounces; a two-ounce pour is used here.
  • Using a combined muddler and cocktail spoon can save kitchen space and simplify preparation.
  • Stainless steel or glass reusable straws are recommended for serving the mojito.
