Ingredients
Old-Fashioned Banana Cake:
- 3 very ripe bananas mashed
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar packed
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 extra-large eggs room temperature
- ½ cup sour cream
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Zest from 1 orange
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- ½ tsp salt
Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 6 oz cream cheese at room temperature
- 6 tbsp unsalted butter softened at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 ½ cups powdered sugar sifted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9-inch springform cake pan.
- Make the cake by beating together the bananas, white sugar, and brown sugar with a mixer until combined.
- Add the oil, eggs, sour cream, vanilla, and orange zest; beat until creamy and smooth.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; mix well.
- Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture and mix with a rubber spatula until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Place into the oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a wooden skewer is inserted in the center and comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and cool in the pan for 15 minutes before moving it to a rack to cool completely.
- Make the frosting when the cake has completely cooled by combining the cream cheese, softened butter, and vanilla extract.
- Beat with a mixer until creamy and smooth.
- Add the sifted powdered sugar and mix with a rubber spatula making sure to scrape the sides of the bowl.
- Spread the frosting thickly on top of the cake and decorate the top with walnut halves. Slice and enjoy!
