Report
This homemade orange salad dressing is vibrant, citrusy, and perfectly balanced with a touch of sweetness from honey, a little tang from Dijon mustard, and a rich, silky texture from extra virgin olive oil. It's the perfect way to brighten up any salad, from simple greens to hearty grain bowls.

Ingredients
- ¾ cup good quality extra virgin olive oil
- ½ cup fresh-squeezed orange juice about 1 large orange
- Zest of one orange adds a concentrated citrus aroma
- 2 tablespoons honey adjust to taste
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon salt more to taste
- ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 2 cloves garlic cut into quarters
Instructions
- Blend the flavors – In a small bowl or jar, whisk together the orange juice, zest, honey, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Infuse the garlic – Add the quartered garlic cloves to the mixture. Let it sit for about 5–10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, crush the cloves slightly before adding.
- Slowly emulsify – While whisking (or using a blender or food processor), slowly drizzle in the olive oil until the dressing thickens and becomes well combined.
- Strain (optional) – If you want a smoother dressing, strain out the garlic before using. Otherwise, leave it in for extra flavor.
- Taste and adjust – Give the dressing a taste and adjust the salt, honey, or acidity if needed. If you'd like a little more brightness, squeeze in a touch of fresh lemon juice.
- Store – Transfer to an airtight container or jar and store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Shake or whisk before using, as natural separation will occur.
Notes
- Drizzle over mixed greens, fennel salad, or a Christmas Salad with oranges, pomegranate, and candied pecans.
- Toss with roasted beets, goat cheese, and walnuts.
- Use as a marinade for grilled chicken or seafood.
- Drizzle over grain bowls for a refreshing citrus kick.
