Instructions

Make Crust

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a food processor, pulse the Oreo cookies until they become fine crumbs.
  3. Mix the Oreo crumbs with the melted butter until well combined.
  4. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom and up the sides of a 9-inch pie dish.
  5. Bake the crust for 8-10 minutes. Let it cool completely before adding the filling.

Make Pudding

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks and milk until combined.
  3. Gradually whisk the milk mixture into the saucepan with the dry ingredients until smooth.
  4. Cook over medium heat, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil. Continue cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes to (ensure a thick consistency that will set perfectly for slicing), then remove from heat.
  5. Stir in the butter and vanilla extract until fully melted and incorporated.
  6. Pour the pudding into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming.
  7. Let it cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours to further set.

Assemble Pie

  1. Once the Oreo crust is cool and the pudding has set in the fridge, pour the pudding into the crust and spread it evenly.
  2. Sprinkle the top with crushed Oreo cookies (without filling).
  3. Arrange gummy worms on top, gently pressing them into the crumbs to secure them.
  4. Refrigerate the assembled pie for at least 4 hours or until set and firm for perfect slicing.
  5. Slice the dirt pie and enjoy!

Notes

  • If you place the pudding mixture into the refrigerator when it is still warm, this will cause condensation to form.
  • Allow the pudding mixture enough time to thicken on the stove. Otherwise, it will be very runny and won’t be set properly in the refrigerator.
  • Don’t try to assemble your pie if the crust or filling is still warm. It will ruin the texture and it won’t firm up properly.
