Papaya Milk
Description
The process begins by selecting and preparing a ripe papaya, peeled thoroughly to avoid the bitter skin, and removing all seeds. Cutting the papaya into cubes allows for easy blending. The cubed fruit is combined in a blender with cold milk, sweetened condensed milk for sweetness, and plenty of ice. Blending until smooth yields a chilled, creamy drink with a balanced tropical fruit flavor.
The texture is velvety with small icy flecks from crushed ice, providing a refreshing mouthfeel. The natural sugars from ripe papaya combine nicely with the milky base, creating a mildly sweet taste without overpowering the fruit's flavor. The recipe suggests using 2% milk but can be adapted with milks of different fat contents based on preference.
This papaya milkshake is best consumed fresh to enjoy the fruity freshness and avoid any flavor changes. It is suitable as a snack, breakfast drink, or a cooling treat. It makes about 3-4 servings, with smaller portions possible by halving ingredients.
Ingredients
- 2 cups papaya 11 oz, flesh
- 2 cups milk ( I used 2 % fat)
- 2 cups ice (11 oz)
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk I used fat free
Instructions
- Wash and cut one medium sized papaya into half. (The best is to cut the papaya when it ripens. The skin will turn yellow from green. )
- After that, use a spoon to remove and discard the seeds.
- Next, use a peeler or a knife to peel off the papaya skin. (I suggest cutting and peeling a little deeper of the papaya skin out, because papaya peel contains bitter ingredients. If you peel the skin too thin, the flesh near the outer skin will have a bitter taste.
- Then, cut the papaya into cubes. (In this recipe, I only use 2 cups of papaya flesh, it is around 11 oz.)
- Pour 2 cups of ice (11 oz) into the blender.
- Put 2 cups of papaya flesh (11 oz) from step 4 into the blender.
- The following step, pour 2 cups of milk ( 2% fat) into the blender.
- Add 2 tablespoons of sweet condensed milk into the blender. (You can add more or less depending on your sweetness.)
- Close the lid and blend it for 30 seconds to 1 minute or until it is smooth. (The blending time depends on the power of the blender.) Then, pour the milkshake into the jars.
Notes
- Choose a ripe papaya with skin that has turned yellow from green for the best sweetness.
- Peel the papaya thoroughly; removing enough skin avoids bitterness from the outer flesh close to the skin.
- Use about 2 cups (11 oz) of papaya flesh, cut into cubes for blending.
- Blend the papaya with milk, ice, and sweetened condensed milk for 30 seconds to 1 minute until smooth.
- Consume fresh for best flavor; this recipe serves 3-4 people, and quantities can be halved as needed.
