Perfect Cream Cheese Frosting

Cream cheese frosting turns the classics - think carrot cake and red velvet cake - into something out-of-this-world delicious. The best part? It’s super simple to whip up to slather on your favorite cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. Including both vanilla and chocolate cream cheese frosting instructions!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup salted butter softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Use a hand mixer to beat cream cheese and butter together for 1 minute until light and fluffy.
  2. Add in vanilla extract and mix until combined, about 10 seconds.
  3. Slowly add in powdered sugar, one half cup at a time until smooth, mixing between additions.
  4. Use to frost cooled cakes, cupcakes or cookies. Store frosting and frosted goods in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • ***For Chocolate Cream Cheese frosting, add in 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder with powdered sugar.
  • For a sturdier or thicker frosting, add more powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time until you have reached desired consistency.
