Red Sangria
Description
Red Sangria brings together sliced citrus fruits—orange and lemon—and tart apple with brandy and a medium-bodied Spanish red wine, such as Rioja, Garnacha, Navarra, or Priorat. A touch of simple syrup can be added for sweetness, while cinnamon sticks and star anise pods lend warm, aromatic notes. The mixture is stirred and refrigerated for at least four hours or overnight, allowing fruit flavors to blend thoroughly with the wine and spirits.
The drink is served chilled, garnished with additional fresh fruit slices for color and balance. The infused fruit often takes on a deep purple hue from the wine, and serving it strained or with fruit pieces is a matter of preference.
Red Sangria is ideal for social occasions during warm weather, offering a refreshing, fruity, and slightly spiced beverage.
The notes suggest using a quality Mediterranean ingredient selection and emphasize the importance of choosing a medium-bodied red wine that complements the sangria’s flavor profile.
