Reduced Balsamic
Description
This recipe involves pouring balsamic vinegar into a saucepan and bringing it to a boil. The heat is then lowered to a simmer and allowed to cook for 30 to 60 minutes until the volume reduces by about two-thirds, concentrating the flavors and thickening the liquid. Once cooled, the reduced balsamic attains a syrup-like consistency suitable for dressings, sauces, or garnishes.
The reduction can be stored in the pantry for months, typically in a labeled bottle. Its sweet acidity can enhance salads, grilled vegetables, meats, or desserts.
Ingredients
- balsamic vinegar
Instructions
- Pour the balsamic vinegar into a saucepan.
- Bring to the boil.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 30-60 minutes or until reduced by 2/3rds.
- Allow to cool and use as desired.
- I pour mine back into the bottle and mark it as “reduced”. It will keep for months and months in the pantry.
