Sangria with Vodka (made in the bottle!)
Description
Sangria with Vodka (made in the bottle!) is a cocktail that uses half a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc white wine combined with fresh orange juice, vodka, triple sec, and sliced apple and orange pieces. The fruit is diced small enough to fit through the narrow neck of the wine bottle. After loading the ingredients into the bottle, it is capped tightly and shaken gently to mix flavors. This technique allows the sangria to marinate within the bottle itself. When serving, the sangria is poured over ice and topped with sparkling water for a refreshing, lightly fizzy finish.
The flavor is bright and fruity with alcoholic warmth from vodka and triple sec balanced by the citrus juice and fresh fruit. Serving sparkling water on the side preserves the carbonation and avoids dilution inside the bottle. The cold sangria can be consumed immediately or chilled for a couple of hours to develop flavor depth and soften the fruit slightly.
Leftover sangria can be stored in the bottle, capped, in the refrigerator for up to three days, though fruit texture deteriorates over longer times. Care is taken not to add sparkling water before shaking to avoid pressure buildup and loss of carbonation.
Ingredients
- ½ bottle white wine I used Sauvignon Blanc
- ½ orange juiced, large
- ½ cup vodka
- ¼ cup triple sec
- ½ apple thinly sliced
- ¼ orange thinly sliced
- 1 can sparkling water I used Tangerine La Croix
Instructions
- First, dice the apple and thinly slice the orange. You'll need the pieces small enough to be able to fit through the neck of the wine bottle.
- Add the fruit, vodka, triple sec, and orange juice to the half empty wine bottle (If you prefer to make this in a large pitcher, add all the ingredients and mix).
- Add the cap to the wine bottle and shake. Note: if it’s a corked bottle, just ensure the cork is fastened tightly before shaking.
- Serve immediately or chill your sangria for 2-4 hours.
- Pour over ice and top each glass with 3-4oz of sparkling water. Garnish with a rosemary sprig and fruit. ENJOY!
Notes
- Do not add sparkling water to the wine bottle to prevent overflow and loss of carbonation.
- Shake the bottle gently only if the cap or cork is securely fastened to avoid spills.
- Store leftover sangria in the bottle with the cap on tightly and refrigerate up to three days.
- Avoid long storage to prevent fruit from getting too soggy.
