Snow Dough Winter Playdough

Report

Snow dough is a winter themed playdough that's easy to make and uses the magic of instant snow for extra chill and a fluffy texture that's as soft as fresh snow!

Instructions

  1. To Prep: Make one batch of instant snow according to package directions. Set aside.
  2. Add flour, water, salt, cream of tartar, oil, cornstarch, and food coloring (if using) to a microwave-safe bowl and stir to combine.
  3. If using glitter, stir in now. Microwave for 1 minute and stir. Microwave 30 seconds and stir. Repeat as needed until playdough is cooked and begins to clump together when you stir it.
  4. Once playdough is cooked, add half of the instant snow and fold into the playdough with a spoon.
  5. Once playdough is cool enough to handle, finish kneading by hand.

Notes

  • Instant Snow - We made one batch of instant snow and used half of it for our blue playdough and half for our white playdough. The directions on our instant snow package called for 1 teaspoon of the instant snow powder and 1/3 cup water, but this may vary depending on the brand you buy. As long as you're adding about 1/2 cup of prepared instant snow to your playdough, it should work out fine.
  • If The Dough Is Sticky - When you add the instant snow, it might make the playdough a little bit sticky at first. If needed, work another Tablespoon of cornstarch into the playdough to help take away that stickiness. You can also microwave the dough for another 30 seconds. I also find that coating hands in oil before playing helps keep any playdough from sticking to hands, not just for this recipe, but any playdough or slime!
  • Microwaving - Be sure that you use a microwave safe bowl to prepared this recipe. Adults should do this step. Handle the bowl with care, as it may become hot when you microwave it and cook the playdough.
