Instructions

  1. Start by putting one half cup of frosting into five separate bowls.
  2. Add one drop of each color of food coloring into four separate bowls. There should be five bowls of different colored frosting.
  3. In the last bowl with white frosting mix in one fourth of a cup of sprinkles.
  4. Add a cup of confectioners sugar to each bowl of frosting. If the frosting still seems too sticky add a little more confectioners sugar at a time until it’s not sticky anymore.
  5. Roll the dough out onto the counter and start to knead it until the dough is smooth.
  6. The playdough is now finished! Once you are done playing with the play dough, store it in the refrigerator.

Notes

  • To avoid extra mess on your kitchen table, consider putting a plastic tablecloth down or having them play on a cookie sheet.
  • You can use your own frosting without any issues. Using any extra you have from another project is a great idea, instead of throwing it out. The powered sugar quantity may be impacted so just keep adding powdered sugar 1/4 a cup at a time until you reach that soft playdough consistency.
  • This homemade play dough recipe is best when used at room temperature. It can melt when hot and be hard to mold when cold.
  • Because it is made with food ingredients it can only be stored for three days at room temperature and in an airtight container. If you put it in the fridge it will last longer but will need to be brought to room temperature before use.
  • *While this recipe is taste-safe, the intent is not to eat it like you would food. It can be eaten but the idea is to play with it, not just eat it!
