Instructions
- Heat the milk until small bubbles appear around the edges and the milk is steaming. Pour into the bowl of a stand mixer with the dough hook attached.
- Add the water, butter, and sugar. Allow the mixture to cool until warm (around 105 degrees F. (You don’t want it too hot, or it will kill the yeast.)
- Stir in the yeast and allow mixture to rest for 5 minutes until the yeast is foamy and fully activated.
- Add the egg, salt, and flour (start with 3 3/4 to 4 cups flour) and mix, gradually adding more flour until the dough clears the sides of the bowl and forms a soft, sticky ball. Knead dough for 5 minutes until the dough is soft and smooth.
- Allow the dough to rise in a warm spot until doubled in size, about an hour.
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place the oven rack in the middle rack. Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
- Lightly punch down the dough and turn out onto a lightly greased countertop.
- Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and place in the prepared pan, spaced 1/2-inch apart. Cover and let the rolls rise until doubled in size.
- Bake for 16 to 18 minutes or until golden on the tops and bottoms. Rub the tops of the hot rolls with more butter. Serve warm and enjoy!
