Soft Chewy Sugar Cookies

Soft Chewy Sugar Cookies blend butter, cream cheese, and sugar to create a tender dough that bakes into cookies with a delicate chewiness and lightly golden edges. The dough is chilled before rolling and cutting into shapes, ensuring the cookies hold their form while remaining soft inside. These cookies can be topped with a smooth buttercream frosting that includes cream cheese for subtle tang and balanced sweetness. The frosting allows flavor variations using different extracts.

Description

The Soft Chewy Sugar Cookies recipe features a dough that combines butter, cream cheese, and sugar, resulting in a tender texture. Chilling the dough makes it easier to roll out and cut into shapes that bake evenly with soft centers and lightly golden edges. The cookies bake quickly at 350°F for about 7 to 9 minutes, enough to set without becoming crisp. The optional buttercream frosting is made by creaming butter and powdered sugar with cream and vanilla extract. Adding cream cheese to the frosting adds creamy tang and balances the sweetness, with flavor options like almond or peppermint extract available. These cookies suit occasions that call for shaped, frosted treats and offer a soft, chewy bite distinct from crisp sugar cookies.

Once baked and cooled, the cookies are ready for frosting spread, making for a sweet finish. The recipe accommodates rolling the dough to desired thickness and cutting into shapes suitable for seasonal or celebratory presentations.
