Spaghetti Pizza Casserole

Spaghetti Pizza Casserole blends cooked spaghetti with mozzarella, egg, and seasonings to create a casserole base baked until firm. A hearty sauce combining ground beef and marinara is layered over the pasta, topped with more cheese and pepperoni slices. Baking until bubbly and golden, the dish offers a pizza-inspired layered casserole with familiar savory flavors and comforting textures.

Description

This unique casserole starts with al dente spaghetti noodles mixed with mozzarella cheese, milk, beaten egg, and Italian seasonings to bind the pasta into a cohesive layer. After partial baking, a sauce prepared from browned ground beef, marinara sauce, and additional Italian seasonings is spread over the pasta layer.

The casserole is topped with remaining mozzarella and pepperoni slices, further emphasizing pizza flavors. Returning the dish to the oven melts the cheese and heats the toppings thoroughly, leaving a golden and bubbly top. The resulting casserole serves as a filling meal with the charm of pizza integrated into a pasta bake.

The stepwise baking method ensures the pasta sets before adding the sauce and toppings, preventing sogginess and balancing textures between layers.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 8 ounces spaghetti noodles broken into 2-inch pieces, cooked al dente, cooled
  • 2 ½ cups mozzarella cheese shredded, divided, 282.5 g
  • ¼ cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • ½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic salt
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Sauce

  • 1 jar marinara sauce 24 ounces
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 ounces pepperoni about 35 slices, or enough to cover the top, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the cooked, cooled noodles, ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, milk, egg, Italian seasoning, garlic salt, and salt.
  3. Spread the mixture into the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Bake for 15 minutes.
  4. While the pasta is baking, make the sauce. In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no pink remains (about 8 minutes). Drain grease.
  5. To the ground beef, add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  6. After 15 minutes, remove the pasta from the oven. Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F.
  7. Spread the sauce mixture over the noodle mixture. Top with the remaining cheese and a layer of pepperoni slices.
  8. Return to the oven and bake for 25-30 more minutes, or until the cheese is hot and bubbly. Let rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
