Strawberry Watermelon Slush
Description
Strawberry Watermelon Slush combines frozen watermelon cubes with strawberries and freshly squeezed lime juice to create a cool, refreshing drink. The watermelon is cubed and frozen ahead for a few hours, ensuring a thick icy texture when blended. The strawberries can be fresh or frozen, and the lime juice adds a bright tartness that complements the sweet fruits. Blending these ingredients results in a naturally sweet, slushy beverage that does not require additional sweeteners unless desired.
The method involves blending the frozen watermelon and strawberries with fresh lime juice until thick and slushy. For a slushier consistency when using fresh strawberries, ice cubes can be added. Mint or basil can be optionally added for an herbal note. This drink serves well immediately after blending to maintain the icy texture.
Freezing the watermelon in a shallow container prevents the cubes from sticking and allows easy portioning. If the blender is less powerful, partially thawing fruit before blending can help. Swapping lemon juice for lime juice can adjust the citrus flavor. This slush can also be frozen into popsicles for a different presentation.
Ingredients
- 2 cups watermelon frozen, seedless
- 1 1/3 cups strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- 2 Tbsp. lime juice about 1 juicy lime, fresh
Optional:
- ice fresh mint and basil
- mint
- basil
Instructions
- Prepare + freeze watermelon: Cube watermelon (rind removed) and place in freezer* for 2 hours or longer.
- When ready to make the slush, rinse and hull the strawberries. (Or simply use frozen strawberries.)
- Place frozen watermelon, strawberries, and fresh lime juice in blender. Blend until slushy and serve immediately.
Notes
- Freeze watermelon cubes spread out on a baking sheet to prevent sticking, and allow slight thawing before blending if frozen solid.
- If using fresh strawberries, adding a few ice cubes helps achieve a slushy texture.
- Lime juice can be swapped entirely or partially with lemon juice depending on preference.
- Sweetener like agave or coconut sugar may be added to taste if fruits are not very sweet.
- This mixture can be poured into popsicle molds and frozen for a frozen treat alternative.
