Sweet Coconut Almond Frangipane Buns

Sweet Coconut Almond Frangipane Buns feature a soft dough filled with a creamy mixture of coconut flakes, almond flour, butter, and egg, enhanced by vanilla and coconut extracts. The dough is rolled with the filling, braided, and tied into knots before baking to a golden finish with almond flakes on top. These buns have a tender crumb with a sweet, nutty filling and a delicate coconut flavor, offering an appealing texture contrast between the soft bread and crunchy almonds.

Description

The Sweet Coconut Almond Frangipane Buns combine a rich filling of coconut flakes, almond flour, softened butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla and coconut extracts. This filling brings a sweet, fragrant profile to the buns. The dough used is a half batch of hamburger bun dough, providing a soft and slightly chewy base. Assembly involves spreading the filling on rolled oval dough pieces, then rolling, cutting, twisting, and knotting the dough to create a braided, knotted shape that holds the filling well during baking.

Once baked at 350°F (177°C) for 18-20 minutes, the buns become lightly golden with a slight crunch from flaked almond garnishes. The braiding and knotting allow the filling to peek through in places, adding both visual appeal and texture variety. The overall flavor is a balanced mix of sweet coconut and almond with a tender, bread-like texture.

These buns are suitable as a breakfast treat or snack. They can be enjoyed plain or warmed slightly. The detailed shaping technique helps distribute the filling while maintaining a soft crumb, making them both visually interesting and tasty.
