Tequila Negroni Recipe

This Tequila Negroni is a cocktail that replaces gin with blanco tequila, mixed with equal parts Campari and sweet vermouth, and optionally a splash of Ancho Reyes for a spicy kick. It offers a bittersweet, herbal flavor profile balanced by the smooth agave notes of tequila. Garnished with lime, it refreshes and enhances the flavors, making for a sophisticated drink.

Description

The Tequila Negroni combines blanco tequila, Campari, and sweet vermouth in equal measures. Stirring these ingredients with ice chills and dilutes the mixture slightly, harmonizing the bold flavors. The addition of Ancho Reyes is optional and introduces a smoky, chili pepper heat that complements the bitterness of Campari and the sweetness of the vermouth. Once stirred, the cocktail is strained over fresh ice in a lowball glass.

Lime garnish adds a citrus aroma and a slight brightness that contrasts the drink’s herbal bitterness, enhancing the tasting experience. This cocktail adapts the classic Negroni formula by integrating the distinctive flavor of tequila, providing a different foundation while maintaining the original’s complex balance.

For parties, the recipe can be scaled to pitchers by combining equal volumes of the liquors with minimal ice to maintain flavor concentration until served. Adjust garnish style as preferred between lime peel, wedge, or dehydrated wheel.
