The Best Fish Finger Sandwich
Description
The Best Fish Finger Sandwich combines several familiar ingredients for a flavorful handheld meal. The fish fingers provide a crispy, golden protein that complements the peppery bite of rocket and cool crunch of little gem lettuce. The tartare sauce adds creaminess and moisture, blending with the briny tang of sliced gherkins to bring brightness. Tiger bread, optionally buttered, creates a soft yet sturdy structure to hold the sandwich fillings without overwhelming them. Fresh parsley scattered in enhances the overall freshness and offers subtle herbaceousness.
Cooking the fish fingers until properly crisped and heated through is key for an appealing texture contrast with the crunchy vegetables. The layering technique—starting with sauce on bread, then greens, fish fingers, remaining sauce, and gherkins—ensures every bite carries all components. This sandwich is well suited to casual lunches or light dinners and can be adapted with different bread choices or homemade fish fingers, including salmon versions, for variation.
The recipe notes suggest using yogurt instead of mayonnaise in tartare sauce for a lighter alternative. Tiger bread slices can be substituted with bagels or other artisan breads to change the texture and flavor profile. Frozen fish fingers are convenient, but fresh homemade versions provide more control over seasoning and quality.
Ingredients
- 4 lice tiger bread
- 6 fish finger
- 4 tablespoon tartare sauce
- 1 little gem lettuce shredded
- 30 g arugula aka rocket
- 1 gherkins sliced
- 5 g parsley chopped, fresh
Instructions
- Cook 6 Fish fingers - about 15-18 minutes.
- Butter 4 slice Tiger bread (optional). Add half of the 4 tablespoon Tartare sauce to two slices of bread. Top with 1 Little gem lettuce, 30 g Rocket (arugula), 5 g Fresh parsley and then three fish fingers each.
- Top each sandwich with the remaining tartare sauce, the slices of 1 Gherkins and finish with the other two slices of bread.
Notes
- Frozen fish fingers offer convenience, but homemade or salmon-based fish fingers can provide a different flavor and texture.
- Replacing mayo with yogurt in the tartare sauce creates a lighter version of the sandwich spread.
- Experiment with different breads such as bagels instead of tiger bread for varied sandwich textures.
