Instructions

Cookie

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F
  2. Cream butter, cream cheese, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, egg, and almond extract in a large mixing bowl (or Kitchen-Aid) until fluffy.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Stir until soft dough forms.
  5. Roll out and cut with a cookie cutter. Thin dough will make crunchy cookies. If you want a soft dough, it needs to be about ⅜ in. {NOTE: Try not to handle the dough too much}
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes on a greased pan. Let cool on a wire rack.

Frost and Decorate

  1. Mix all ingredients with a hand mixer. If too thick, add a tad more milk.
  2. Frost the cookies with pink and red frosting.
  3. Use the decorating gel to add texture to the hearts. Sprinkle with red and pink sugar sprinkles and let set to harden before gifting or delivering.

Notes

  • Store the dough. While not necessary, you can wrap the dough with plastic wrap and chill it in the fridge for 1-2 days before rolling and baking. You can also freeze the dough. See How to Freeze Cookie Dough for tips.
  • Store. Cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-5 days or in the freezer for up to 3 months. If frosted, let the frosting set first and use wax paper to divide the layers.
