Vegan Soda Bread
Description
The Vegan Soda Bread blends two types of flour with baking soda and salt, which react with the plant-based milk to naturally leaven the dough. Mixing the ingredients just until combined and forming a round shape avoids overworking the gluten, ensuring a tender interior. A deep cross cut on top allows the bread to expand evenly in the oven.
Baking at 200°C for about 30 minutes produces a golden crust and fully cooked interior with a slightly chewy crust and moist crumb. The use of unsweetened plant milk keeps the flavor neutral, making the bread versatile for various accompaniments.
This bread can be served sliced for sandwiches, toast, or alongside stews and salads. Letting it cool completely before slicing helps maintain its structure. Vegan soda bread is a straightforward, yeast-free bread option that yields a satisfying homemade loaf with accessible ingredients.
