Vegan Taro Bubble Tea (Taro Boba)

This vegan taro bubble tea blends strong brewed tea with homemade taro paste and soy milk to create a creamy and subtly sweet drink that captures the texture and color of classic taro boba. The addition of tapioca pearls adds chewy contrast, while optional purple food coloring achieves the traditional vibrant hue. This beverage is a dairy-free alternative offering a smooth, rich flavor suitable for boba tea fans wanting a plant-based option.

Description

Vegan Taro Bubble Tea (Taro Boba) combines steeped tea, taro paste, and plant-based milk to produce a creamy, smooth drink with authentic taro flavor. The tea is brewed strong to balance the dilution from milk and taro, avoiding bitterness while maintaining richness. Tapioca pearls cooked separately provide a chewy texture at the bottom, typical of bubble tea. Optional purple food coloring can be added to match the iconic purple color of taro boba.

The preparation involves blending brewed tea with taro paste and milk until smooth, then assembling the drink by adding cooked tapioca pearls and ice in a tall glass before pouring the taro milk tea over. This method ensures even blending of flavors and the desired boba texture. It provides a visually appealing and enjoyable drinking experience.

Notes suggest that due to the dilution from milk and taro, the tea should be brewed strong without fear of bitterness. Sweetness is moderate without added sugar, but can be adjusted with stevia or other sweeteners to taste. This recipe accommodates personal preference for sweetness without overpowering the characteristic taro flavor.

Notes

  • Steep the tea strongly as it will be diluted by the taro paste and milk, preventing bitterness.
  • Add sweetener gradually to reach desired sweetness, with stevia as a suggested option.
  • Use cooked tapioca pearls at the bottom of the glass for traditional bubble tea texture.
