Vietnamese Coffee French Toast

This version of French toast uses a Vietnamese coffee custard as its soaking base, infusing thick-cut toasted bread with rich coffee flavor and a touch of sweetness from condensed milk. Pan-fried in butter until golden on each side, the toast develops a crisp exterior while remaining tender inside. Finished with a drizzle of condensed milk, it makes a flavorful breakfast or brunch treat that combines fragrant coffee notes with the satisfying texture of classic French toast.

Description

Vietnamese Coffee French Toast is prepared by brewing strong Vietnamese coffee with a drip filter, then sweetening the hot coffee with condensed milk. This coffee mixture is combined with a beaten egg to form a custard for dipping. Thick slices of toasted bread are soaked briefly in this custard to absorb the coffee flavor without becoming overly soggy.

The bread is then pan-fried in butter on medium-low heat, allowing the outside to develop a golden, lightly crisp surface while the inside remains soft and infused with coffee flavor. Cooking over moderate heat helps prevent burning despite the sugars in the condensed milk.

Served warm and finished with extra condensed milk drizzled on top, this French toast offers a unique flavor profile that balances the bittersweet coffee and creamy sweetness. It is a breakfast choice that suits those who enjoy a coffee-flavored twist on a familiar dish.
