Vodka Watermelon Cocktail
Description
This cocktail starts by cutting fresh watermelon and removing the rind before blending the flesh into a smooth puree. Straining removes any pulp and seeds for a clear juice. Combining this juice with vodka and fresh lemon juice creates a balanced cocktail with subtle sweetness and acidity. Serving over ice keeps the drink chilled and refreshing.
The cocktail is garnished with watermelon wedges, lemon or lime slices, and fresh mint sprigs which add visual appeal and a hint of herbal aroma. This drink suits warm weather and casual gatherings.
Practical tips include starting with chilled watermelon and vodka to keep the drink cold. Larger batches can be made by adjusting ingredient amounts, and the cocktail can be adapted into a mocktail by omitting vodka or substituting with lemon-lime soda. Adding club soda or ginger ale introduces bubbles, or swapping vodka for tequila with triple sec changes the profile to a watermelon margarita. Alternatively, muddling watermelon in a shaker offers a lighter juice flavor.
Ingredients
- 6 ounces watermelon juice
- 2 ounces vodka
- 2 ounces lemon juice
- ice
Instructions
- Cut the watermelon into slices, remove the rind from each slice and then cut into chunks.
- Put the watermelon chunks into a blender and process until it's liquified.
- Strain the watermelon puree with a fine mesh strainer to remove any seeds and pulp.
- Add ice to a cocktail glass, then add two ounces of vodka and the lemon juice. Fill the remainder of the glass with watermelon juice. Stir.
- Garnish with a small wedge of watermelon, lemon or lime wheels, and sprigs of fresh mint. Enjoy!
Notes
- Use chilled watermelon and keep vodka cold (in the freezer) for a well-chilled cocktail.
- Make a large batch by scaling ingredients, convenient for parties.
- To make a mocktail, omit alcohol or substitute vodka with lemon-lime soda.
- Add club soda, ginger ale, or ginger beer for a fizzy version.
- Switch vodka to tequila plus triple sec for a watermelon margarita variation.
- Muddle watermelon instead of blending for a lighter juice taste.
