5-Minute Vegan Golden Milk

5-Minute Vegan Golden Milk combines coconut and almond milks with turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, and black pepper to create a warm, mildly spiced beverage. A touch of coconut oil adds richness if desired, balanced by maple syrup or other sweeteners for a gentle sweetness. The drink is gently heated and whisked to meld flavors without boiling, delivering a smooth, creamy experience.

Description

This Golden Milk recipe uses a blend of coconut and almond milk as a dairy-free base, enhanced with ground turmeric and fresh or ground ginger for earthy warmth. Cinnamon contributes a sweet, woody note, while black pepper helps increase turmeric's absorption and adds a subtle bite. Optional coconut oil introduces a richer mouthfeel. Maple syrup or other sweeteners balance the spices with gentle sweetness.

The preparation involves gently warming and whisking the ingredients until hot but not boiling, preserving delicate flavors and ensuring smoothness. The beverage is served immediately for best flavor, offering comforting warmth and aromatic spices.

This vegan golden milk can be stored chilled for a few days and reheated gently. Using fresh ginger requires straining to maintain a smooth texture, and selecting coconut milk with adequate fat content improves richness if skipping the oil.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 ½ cups coconut milk or sub other dairy-free milk of choice, light
  • 1 ½ cups almond milk DIY or store-bought, unsweetened plain
  • 1 ½ tsp Turmeric ground
  • 1/4 tsp ground ginger (or 1 tsp freshly grated ginger*)
  • 1 whole cinnamon stick (or 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon)
  • 1 Tbsp coconut oil (optional for richness // see notes for oil-free)
  • 1 pinch black pepper ground
  • maple syrup or coconut sugar or stevia, to taste, sweetener of choice

Instructions

  1. To a small saucepan, add coconut milk, almond milk, turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, coconut oil (optional), black pepper, and sweetener of choice (I usually add 1 Tbsp (15 ml) maple syrup // adjust amount if altering number of servings).
  2. Whisk to combine and warm over medium heat. Heat until hot to the touch but not boiling - about 4 minutes - whisking frequently.
  3. Turn off heat and taste to adjust flavor. Add more sweetener to taste or more turmeric or ginger for intense spice + flavor.
  4. Serve immediately, dividing between two glasses and leaving the cinnamon stick behind. Best when fresh, though leftovers can be stored covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat on the stovetop or microwave until hot.

Notes

  • When using fresh ginger, strain the golden milk through a fine mesh sieve before serving for a smooth texture.
  • For an oil-free version, use canned coconut milk or other dairy-free milks with sufficient fat content to maintain richness.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for 2-3 days; reheat gently on stovetop or microwave.
  • Sweetener amounts can be adjusted to taste based on preference and ingredient variations.
