Ingredients
Brownie Layer
- ½ cup coconut sugar honey or agave nectar
- ½ cup almond meal flour or whole-wheat pastry flour regular whole wheat flour will work fine too
- ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ½ cup unsweetened applesauce or melted butter
- ¼ cup liquid egg whites or 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Almond Butter Layer
- 1 cup almond butter
- ½ cup coconut sugar or brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 egg beaten
- ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Line an square baking dish with parchment paper or grease with coconut oil.
- Set aside.
Brownie Layer
- In a bowl, mix the sugar or other sweetener of choice), flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt.
- Add the egg, butter and vanilla extract.
- Mix together thoroughly.
- Gently mix in the chocolate chips.
- Spread in one even layer on the bottom of the baking dish.
Almond Butter Layer
- In another bowl, mix together all of the almond butter ingredients, except the chocolate chips
- Mix in the chocolate chips.
- Carefully drop almond butter mixture in various spots on top of the brownie layer and spread evenly.
- Bake 30 - 34 minutes or until golden brown on top
- Let cool.
- Lift out of the pan by the parchment paper.
- Cut into squares
- ENJOY!!
