Description
Balsamic Glaze is made by gently simmering balsamic vinegar, optionally sweetened with honey, until it reduces by at least half and reaches a syrupy texture. The process concentrates the flavors, turning the vinegar into a glossy, rich sauce with balanced sweet and tangy notes. The glaze thickens further upon cooling, making it ideal for drizzling.
This glaze enhances a range of dishes from salads and grilled vegetables to meats and desserts, adding complexity without overpowering. Using honey is optional but can subtly soften acidity and add sweetness.
The recipe yields about one-third cup of glaze but can be scaled larger with adjusted cooking time. Storing in a glass container is recommended to preserve flavor and avoid chemical reactions with the vinegar. The glaze keeps well refrigerated for several weeks.

- 1 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/2 Tbsp honey (optional)
Instructions
- Pour 1 cup balsamic vinegar into a saucepan and add 1/2 Tbsp honey (if using).
- Bring to a low boil, then reduce heat to keep at a simmer for 12-15 minutes.* Stir occasionally until reduced at least by half. It's done when it lightly coats the back of a spoon. It will thicken more as it cools. Transfer to a mason jar* or air-tight container, let cool to room temperature then refrigerate for 3 to 4 weeks.
