Balsamic Vinaigrette
Description
The Balsamic Vinaigrette recipe combines balsamic vinegar, honey, Dijon mustard, olive oil, kosher salt, and black pepper. The ingredients are shaken together in a jar until emulsified and creamy. The dressing balances the acidity and slight sweetness of the balsamic vinegar with the richness of olive oil and the piquancy of mustard and pepper. This creates a smooth vinaigrette that coats greens or vegetables evenly. The honey's quantity can be adjusted depending on the natural sweetness of the balsamic vinegar used, without added sugars. The vinaigrette keeps well when refrigerated and should be shaken before each use to recombine.
This vinaigrette complements salads and pasta salads, and it also works well on grilled or oven-roasted vegetables. It can double as a marinade for chicken, where its acidity and flavor can enhance the meat before cooking.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 cup olive oil extra virgin
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Place the balsamic vinegar, honey, dijon mustard, olive oil, salt and pepper in a jar.
- Seal the lid and shake the jar well for about a minute. The dressing will be mixed well and creamy. Taste and add more salt, balsamic vinegar or honey if needed.
- Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Shake well before using.
Notes
- Choose balsamic vinegar without added sugar to control sweetness.
- Adjust honey amount to balance the natural sweetness of your vinegar.
- Shake the vinaigrette well before each use to remix the ingredients.
- Store refrigerated for up to two weeks for best freshness.
