Ingredients
- 2 packages Johnsonville Brats any flavor, 19 oz each per package
- 24 oz light beer 2 cans
- 2 White onions sliced
- 2 tablespoons salted butter
- ¼ cup dill pickle juice optional
- 1 green bell pepper or red bell pepper, optional
Instructions
- Preheat grill to grill to medium-low.
- Place a disposable 9"x11" foil pan on the grill. Add beer, butter, onions, & pickle juice (if using). Set off to one side of the grill and allow to simmer and cook.
- Cook brats on the grill over medium heat until golden and cooked through, 15-20 minutes. *see note
- Once grilled, add the cooked Brats to the hot tub and let them simmer for at least 30-40 minutes.
- If adding bell peppers, lightly olive oil the outside of the bell peppers and season with salt and pepper. Grill until tender-crisp, slice and add to the beer along with the brats.
Notes
- *Brats can be simmered in beer for 15 minutes before grilling, we prefer the flavor with grilling first. To simmer the brats before grilling, place beer and onions in a pan or dutch oven and bring to a simmer. Add brats and allow to simmer 15 minutes before grilling. Remove from the liquid and grill until golden and return brats to the beer hot tub to simmer.
- Be sure not to pierce or poke the brats or the juices will leak out.
- Homemade Dill Pickle Relish (optional)
- Chop onions in a mini food processor. Add remaining ingredients and pulse to reach desired consistency. Season with salt & pepper to taste.
